Quote for Today

Whom is your art intended for?

I think I do my work for some sadder version of myself, a woman who would be sitting in Row K. I am trying to make her laugh.

I love this. It reminds me of Dennis Miller's saying about who he writes his rarified humor for. I'm butchering it (too lazy to Google) but it was something like half the stuff he writes for fairly smart people to get (the bulk of his audience); a smaller portion for a few people who'll get the arcane reference; and one joke just for that guy in the back row who's the only one who'll appreciate it but who'll split his sides when he hears it.
